01Look for Experiences Rather Than Things
There are a variety of things that you can do to enjoy life that do not cost very much money. First, you need to identify the times that you are most happy. It may be when you are lost in a good book, outdoors, or when you spend time with friends. Then look at your budget and schedule and see how you can schedule this time for yourself every week. There are almost always ways that you can save and still enjoy many things. If one of your favorite things is dining out at nice restaurants, try learning to cook those foods. It will save you money, even if you are spending more on ingredients than you normally would. Making a place in your budget for these costs can help, as well.
02Set Goals and Track Your Progress
One of the things that can be discouraging is focusing only on what you do not have, and what you really want. Instead of making this negative, turn it into a positive. Set actionable goals each week to reach your goals. It helps to be able to actually measure your progress. You can create a chart, use a jar to collect cash, or find other ways to see how well you are progressing toward reaching your goals. A budget is a must if you are in a situation where you are struggling to get by or you do not feel like you have enough money. You are never too poor to budget, and it will help you to begin really moving forward on changing your situation. When you budget be sure that you set aside some money each month for fun and for your goals. This will help you be able to stick to your budget and stay motivated.
03Find Like Minded Friends
It helps to have friends that are in a similar situation and working toward similar goals. You can cheer each other on and find inexpensive things to do together. A good support group can help you stay motivated. If your friends are always complaining because you do not have money or trying to get you to spend more than you can afford, you may need to find new friends that will not do this to you. A good friend will not put you down because of your current financial situation.
04Gain Some Perspective
It can help to gain some perspective on the situation and realize all the things that you do have. Take the time to volunteer at a soup kitchen or food pantry. Volunteering can help take your mind off of your current situation and give you perspective on what you really do have. Although you may not have everything you want or need right now, you likely have more than a lot of people in America, and more than a lot of people in the world. It can also help to realize that this is just temporary.
Listing the things that you do have each day can also help you turn your situation around and help you through times when you are struggling financially. Keep a journal and find a few things each day that you are grateful to have in your life. This should help you focus on more positive things instead of the negatives things.
05Practice Good Self Care
In stressful situations, especially long-term ones, it is important to take care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually. This means taking the time to exercise on a regular basis and eating health food. It also means making sure that you have time relax and let out your frustrations with friends. Spiritually can be different for different people. For some people, it is taking the time to meditate each day, for others it may be walking or hiking in the woods or visiting the beach. If you are taking care of yourself, you will have the energy you need to make the changes necessary to improve your financial situation. As you complete your goals above be sure that they are not negatively affecting this aspect of taking care of yourself. It is important to find the right balance.
How Do I Feel Happy With No Money?
When you are poor, it can be difficult to focus on being happy, especially if you are worried about how you are going to make ends meet or put food on the table. However, if you are managing to get by, but you do not have a lot left over to really enjoy life, you may also be wondering just how you are going to make ends meet. Many people feel that in order to be happy that you need to have certain things. Studies have shown that once you can meet your basic needs, having more money does not bring more happiness. So what can you do to improve your happiness when you feel like you do not have any money?
